Suzuki Strings Program

The Suzuki Method teaches music using a mother-tongue approach, meaning we learn music just like we learn how to speak! Listening, repetition, shared musical literature, and positive reinforcement from a practice partner are essential components of the method. At SVPM we offer Suzuki based instruction on Violin and Viola.

 FAQs about our Suzuki Program

  • The Suzuki Method uses a shared set of repertoire that allows students to gain technical and musical understanding of their instrument at a rapid pace.

Listening to recordings of these songs is essential to process.

The parent or guardian of the child is actively involved in the learning process, helping the student practice at home and in the lesson.

  • Yes, our Suzuki teachers have completed coursework with the Suzuki Association of the Americas to qualify them as Suzuki instructors.

Group classes are an essential way for students to learn and grow their ability by watching and playing with their peers. They’re also lots of fun and a great way to make lifelong friends!

Our group classes are organized by ability level and meet every other week each semester for a total of seven classes.

  • Yes! Just like we learn how to speak before we learn how to read, the Suzuki method encourages students to learn some basic tunes and skills by ear, before putting a visual connection to those sounds.

When a student will start note-reading is left to the discretion of their private teacher.
